Jan. 6th, 2012 12:11 pmI read a large number of the Sherlock Holmes stories when I was a kid, but I hadn't read all of them. But a week ago, I started reading The Annotated Sherlock Holmes: The Four Novels and Fifty-Six Short Stories Complete and I haven't been able to put it down.
I don't -just- love the stories in general, I also love the annotations. They're an encyclopedia of pre-internet fandom debate and theorizing circa 1960. There's even fanfic recs, lol. Only real fans would spend decades debating exactly how many wives Watson had, based on what time the moon rose on December 12, 1889. (Unfortunately since this was the 60's, the invaluable contributions of the slash fandom are obviously not included.)
Excuse me now, I have to hunt down some Holmes/Watson fanfic.
