55 Haruka Tenô (Bishôjo Senshi Sailor Moon) - The track runner and race car driver who becomes Sailor Uranus, but who often fights alone with her beloved Michiru/Neptune.

56 Michiru Kaiô (Bishôjo Senshi Sailor Moon) - The artist and violinist who becomes Sailor Neptune, and often ends up fighting alone with her beloved Haruka. But both of them do find more happiness when they connect with the other Senshi.

57 Setsuna Meiô (Bishôjo Senshi Sailor Moon) - The lonely Guardian of Time Sailor Pluto who ends up leaving her post to personally protect and help her beloved princesses, and becomes close with Haruka and Michiru.

58 Hotaru Tomoe (Bishôjo Senshi Sailor Moon) - Daughter of Professor Tomoe, she dies after one of her father's experiments goes horribly wrong, but gets possessed by the evil Mistress 9, almost denying her the chance to fulfill her destiny as Sailor Saturn.

59 Kouya Sakagami & Yamato Nakano (Loveless) - The subjects of experiments and control, they come to love each other so much they leave it all behind for each other.

60 Molly Hooper (Sherlock) - morgue attendant at St Bart's who often helps Sherlock out. She dumps James Moriarty after she finds out he's a violent homicidal criminal who was only using her to get at Sherlock; but in the end, she's the one who helps Sherlock fake his death.

61 Barbara Wright (Doctor Who) - History teacher who travels the universe with the Doctor; intelligent, competent, and brave.

62 Izumi Curtis (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Alchemist housewife who will kick your ass if you disrespect her life choices and has a beautiful heart of gold.

63 Winry Rockbell (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Daughter of two doctors who were murdered when one of their patients went into a homicidal rage; she becomes an immensely competent automail technician, and often helps her close childhood friends, the Elric brothers.

64 Riza Hawkeye (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Badass military woman who has dedicated her life to supporting Roy Mustang, including making sure he toes the line.

65 Olivier Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Beyond BAMF military woman who rules Briggs.

66 Utena Tenjo (Revolutionary Girl Utena) - The girl who tries to revolutionize the world.

67 Anthy Himemiya (Revolutionary Girl Utena) - The girl who revolutionizes the world by walking away.

68 Kerowyn (Valdemar novels) - Badass granddaughter of the powerful witch Kethry, trained by Kethry's Oathsister Tarma after she leaves home. She becomes a mercenary, and then gets Chosen and spends the rest of her life with her new husband in Valdemar.

69 Elspeth (Valdemar novels) - First introduced as 'The Brat,' the spoiled princess who has been manipulated and spoiled but redeems herself; when she grows up, she ends up giving up her claim to the throne to become the first Herald-Mage in hundreds of years.

70 Selenay (Valdemar novels) - Badass queen of Valdemar, who helps her country through some of the biggest crises in its history, while enduring the personal tragedy of her father's death and her first husband's betrayal.

71 Rose Henderson Nadler (Lost) - Wonderful woman who just wants to live with her husband in peace for as long as they both have.

72 Sun-Hwa Kwon (Lost) - Beautiful woman in a controlling family who tries to build a life of her own that makes her happy.

73 Juliet Burke (Lost) - Badass woman and fertility doctor, with plenty of moral complexity.

74 Souma (RG Veda) - Badass woman who loses her family, finds love with Kendappa, and then has to deal with Kendappa's betrayal.

Toph is a fucking amazing BAMF. Born as the blind daughter of an immensely rich family, her parents tried to control every aspect of her life for her own protection. She snuck out of her family home and learned how to Earthbend from the Badgermoles. She turns it into a sixth sense, allowing her to 'see' via vibrations in the earth. After becoming a champion in the Earthbending pro-wrestling competitions as 'The Blind Bandit,' she runs away from home with Avatar Aang and teaches him Earthbending. As if that's not good enough, she then invents Metalbending and becomes the Chief of Police in Republic City; her daughter Lin Bei Fong follows in her footsteps.

She's gruff, independent, brave, and beautiful, and complicated. She will always be one of my favorite fictional women ever.

I love Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. She's a sweet dreamer and a hard worker and genuine person who loves and learns.

Fumi Manjoume from Aoi Hana. She is my precious little baby omg. She is a little crybaby who grows into herself and falls in and out of love and finds the courage to come out and omg I just want to hug her forever.

(No I haven't forgotten or dropped this challenge.)

Persuasion is tied with Pride and Prejudice as my favorite Jane Austen novel, and a large part of why is simply because I'm in love with Anne Elliot.

She is so sweet and so strong. She tries so hard to keep her family afloat despite the fact her sisters and father are all vain and shallow. She broke it off with Frederick because she genuinely thought it was the right thing to do; she always tries to do the right thing. "She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older: the natural sequence of an unnatural beginning." In the end, she gets her own life and her own self-confidence- and a wonderful husband who loves her.

Oh how I love you, Martha Jones. You're a badass medical student who loves the Doctor and finds fantastic adventures and unbearable heartbreak with him, but you know when to leave for your own mental health. And you go on to have a great life, even without him. You are lovely. ♥

(I'm not a big fan of Martha/Mickey, because it came out of nowhere, and it comes across as an arbitrary 'pair the spares' deal, but wev.)

I have been in love with Jane Eyre since I was ten years old. I don't know how many times I've read the book, and I've seen at least a dozen movie/tv versions.

She is so strong and has so much integrity; she endures so much and always knows who she is and what she wants. She's very self-aware, but also grows so much. Screw Rochester, Jane is far more fascinating.

Alpha is the android protagonist of the amazing manga series Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko.

Her owner departed years ago, while Alpha remained behind running her small cafe in the middle of nowhere. She gets very few customers, but lovingly continues running Alpha Cafe- except when she goes off traveling. Her world is slowly dying, but Alpha explores and sees incredible beauty. She grows and changes, even as she watches the humans she loves change too.

(I really can't recommend Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko enough if you enjoy slice-of-life manga; it's incredibly gorgeous and engaging, and Alpha is a large part of the reason why.)

Kaylee is one of my favorite characters on Firefly. She's genuinely sweet and caring, and I think it's impossible to not like her. She keeps the ship running, both physically as the genius mechanic and metaphorically as the sweetheart of the crew. Unlike most 'ingenue' characters, she's not sexually innocent, either- she is unashamed of how much she likes sex. She's head over heals for Simon, but doesn't let him walk all over her. (Frankly, I actually like Simon/Kaylee more than Mal/Inara, though Mal/Inara is pretty great.) I especially love her friendship with Inara- such sweet interactions.

The Halliwell sisters of Charmed are incredible women. When the show starts, Phoebe is the troublesome youngest, Piper is the peacemaking middle sister, and Prue is the responsible, uptight eldest. After the death of their grandmother, they find out that, not only are they witches, but they are the Charmed Ones, the most powerful witches ever born, and together they can call on the Power of Three. After the death of Prue, Piper and Phoebe discover they have another sister, Paige, and the family dynamics change again- especially when the sisters begin adding husbands and children to the mix.

Over eight seasons and 178 episodes, these four women grow and develop, make mistakes and learn, and become all they should be and choose to be. They save the world and rescue innocents while falling in love and breaking their hearts, making and losing friends and lovers, changing careers, becoming wives and mothers- and always remembering to depend on their sisters.

The show didn't always get it right (I still fucking hate Chris until he dies, when I can imagine that with the time loop stuff, he turns into less of an asshole) but plenty of times, I simply couldn't keep my eyes off the screen.

(PS: In my headcanon, Wyatt is gay. Because in 8 seasons, there is only -one- queer witch. IN THE MIDDLE OF SAN FRANCISCO.)
