tv rec: Alcatraz
Feb. 4th, 2012 02:21 pmI recently started watching Fox's new show, Alcatraz. So far I love it. It's Lost meets The 4400.
The premise of the show is that in 1963, about 300 inmates and guards disappeared from Alcatraz, resulting in a huge cover-up. Now, the missing people are starting to re-appear, without having aged a day. SFPD Detective Rebecca Madsen stumbles into the case, and enlists the help of Dr Diego Soto, a comic book store owner with two doctorates and an encyclopedic knowledge of Alcatraz.
It's by the guys who created Lost, so the supernatural mystery stuff is well-done so far. And I can't describe how much I love Madsen and Soto, and their lovely friendship.
Rebecca Madsen is competent, intelligent, humorous, empathetic, kind, and tough as nails, and I'm more than half in love with her.
Diego Soto is just as lovely. The actor portraying him, Jorge Garcia, was one of the absolute best parts of Lost in his role of Hurley, and the same holds true here. And can I just say how nice it is to see a fat protagonist who isn't punished for being fat or even expected to make some sort of excuse for it?
Also, Parminder Nagra is in it.
