Yesterday I cried because North Carolina passed a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. I live in Tennessee, which also has a state constitutional amendment banning ssm, just a few miles from the North Carolina border.
And now Obama has said he supports marriage equality.
Now, there are a thousand caveats and critiques to be made, but I just want one fucking day to celebrate that the President has supported ssm, because that's never happened before. And I remember how I cried the night he was elected, because it happened the same night Prop 8 passed.
As Melissa McEwan put it, "Obama opened a door, and I'mma walk through it with my usual pissy swagger demanding more, always more."
In other wonderful news, this is also the day Argentina passed a law allowing trans people to legally change how their gender is listed -and- providing for medical care.
